Department Overview:

The Chazen Museum of Art collects, preserves, interprets, and exhibits works of art and present related educational programs in support of the teaching, research, and public service mission of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Within the Chazen’s 176,000 square feet of museum space is a collection of approximately 25,000 works of art covering diverse historical periods, cultures and geographic locations, from ancient Greece, Western Europe and the Soviet Empire to Moghul India, 18th-century Japan and modern Africa.

Schedule:

Working 5-8 hours a week during the hours of 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Days and hours of employment would be any day(s) Monday - Thursday.

Qualifications:

No specific qualifications are required for this role. However, candidates with backgrounds in Theatre and Drama, Art History, Textiles & Fashion Design, and Studio Art may be helpful.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Good candidate is a careful and detail-oriented person with an interest in learning about museum operations and/or the visual arts. Training will be provided but must be willing to work independently and execute repetitive tasks.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Physical Care of Art Collection:
- Dust artwork and display furniture
- Build storage containers and mounts for objects, and storage folders for works on paper
Data Entry:
- Assist with specific data entry initiatives
Office Tasks:
- Prepare and organize files for artworks in the collection
- Photocopy reference information for object files
- File reference materials into object files
- Process digital images
Other Duties May Include:
- Conduct inventory of artwork
- Prepare condition reports for artwork
- Other duties as assigned
