Department Overview:
Badger Talks is housed in UW Connects outreach programs, which provides programming around the state through the Office of State Relations. This office builds relationships with statewide stakeholders and constituencies while developing and implementing strategies to advance UW-Madison’s priorities with the state legislature, the governor, and other state government agencies. Housed in beautiful Union South, Badger Talks strengthens relationships with Wisconsin communities by facilitating 400 events each year featuring faculty and staff experts who have dynamic and engaging ways of presenting their knowledge and research. The programs also produces pre-recorded talks and podcasts.

Schedule:
Hours/Availability: 12 hours per week required in office (no work mid Dec to mid Jan). Must be available to commit for minimum one year. Summer availability required. Remote hours may be approved for rare exceptions. Salary: $18 per hour. Opportunity for raises based upon performance. Student employees also receive a 30% discount at union food outlets. A laptop is provided and to be used for this position. This position works closely on assignments and duties with the Badger Talks Coordinator and reports to the Associate Director of Outreach Programs.

Qualifications:
• Current undergraduate (minimum sophomore status) or graduate student with an interest in marketing, communications, journalism, or related fields. • Demonstrated ability to be highly organized, efficient, and detail-oriented while juggling multiple tasks. • Strong written and visual communication skills with an eye for creative, engaging content. • Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Bluesky, Threads, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn) and understanding of best practices for audience engagement. • Familiarity with design and email tools (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar). • Ability to create and manage email lists and work with digital photos/graphics. • Self-starter with a track record of reliability, productivity, and meeting deadlines. • Prior experience managing social media for an organization, club, or campaign is a plus. • Enthusiasm for promoting campus events and collaborating with other units across the university.

The ideal candidate will be: • Very organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; reporting tasks completed at the end of each shift • A creative storyteller with a sharp eye for digital engagement trends • Comfortable and experienced with design tools and social media platforms • A self-starter; Extremely reliable and responsible, able to work independently while meeting deadlines • Excited to contribute ideas and strategies that help elevate the program’s visibility around the state, while showcasing talent from campus • Good design eye for creating emails and posters using our existing templates, but offering suggestions for improvement
Position Summary/Job Duties:
• Create and manage many Facebook events and tagging relevant campus units to boost visibility • Design and schedule social media posts across multiple channels with an eye for fun, engaging, and shareable content • Design and distribute email campaigns and create/maintain targeted distribution lists • Support event promotion through digital photos, graphics (Canva), and other creative assets • Stay on top of deadlines, tasks, and deliverables to ensure smooth, high-output marketing support. • Catalogue, organize and maintain photos/videos from events • Create content and help manage/monitor social media accounts; help grow audiences • Help promote events on Facebook through engagement and dialogue with audiences • Update monthly analytics spreadsheets and create infographics for data reporting • Maintain local calendar listing sites for events • Maintain and further develop marketing toolkit for venues and speakers • Create and edit short videos, as needed • Assist with select events as needed • Other duties as needed
