Department Overview:

The Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR) is a dynamic, growing and multidisciplinary Center housed within the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). Broadly, CHDR focuses on the social determinants of health and related disparities.

Schedule:

The CHDR Communications Support Student will meet in-person with the ECO team 1-2 times a semester to focus their work and projects and will meet remotely with their supervisor weekly or at an agreed upon cadence. This role will have general flexibility around class schedules and hours. For reference, our office is located off campus near West Towne mall, just off the bus rapid transit line.

Qualifications:

-UW-Madison student in good academic standing

-Strong experience and comfort with social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn and Facebook

-Working familiarity with graphic design tools like InDesign and Creative Commons or the ability to learn quickly

-Exemplary written and verbal skills

-Strong attention to detail

-Ability to meet schedule expectations as outlined above

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Ability to learn new software as required by job duties

-Organizational skills

-Strong communication skills

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The CHDR Comms Support Student will contribute to the overall success of the Center for Health Disparities Research. This position will provide support for the ECO team in its role fulfilling internal and external communications projects and tasks at CHDR.

Social media: Primary responsibility
-Adapt and translate existing content for social media posts
-Social media calendar development

Graphic design:
-Graphic design assistance for newsletters/web/social media
-Working knowledge of InDesign/Creative Commons or ability to learn quickly

Web:
-Support for web content/data transfer
-Tagging content

Media tracking and analysis

Email newsletter preparation
-Support with content development and idea generation for internal weekly newsletter
-Assistance with newsletter design

Other projects or duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

Standing, sitting, keyboard and computer use.
