Department Overview:
The School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS) at UW-Madison was launched in 2019 and brings together the top ranked departments of Computer Sciences, Statistics, and the Information School. CDIS IT operates out of Morgridge Hall 3650.

Schedule:
Minimum of 15 hours per week between 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Scheduling will be determined by full-time staff, but is flexible with student input, academic responsibilities, and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications:
- Must qualify for student hourly employment. - Two or more years remaining as a student. - Ability to problem-solve, make decisions, and work independently or with others as appropriate to the task at hand. - Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and coworkers, both person-to-person and by email. - Basic computer skills. - Some familiarity with computer hardware. - Willingness or desire to learn necessary IT / Computer skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Desirable, Not Required: - Familiarity with assembling/disassembling computers. - Familiarity with computer hardware troubleshooting. - Familiarity with computer software troubleshooting. - Familiarity with Git-based version control. - Technical familiarity with Windows and/or Linux operating systems. - Comfortable working from a Windows, Linux, and/or Unix-like command line interface. - Basic understanding of computer networking. - Basic understanding of SQL. - Programming experience in Python or other languages. - Programming experience in a full-stack environment. Applicants with advanced experience will have the opportunity for more specialized tasks in: - DevOps - Web App Development - IT Security - Network infrastructure & Management - Linux or Windows Systems Admin
Position Summary/Job Duties:
As a Student System Administrator, you'll help our full time IT staff members provide computing resources and support for students, faculty, and staff. Regularly, you'll respond to requests for help using CDIS computing facilities, use monitoring tools to detect and/or prevent problems with department IT services, support computing hardware in various stages of its lifecycle, oversee/operate our daily backup system, and develop and maintain software tools and mechanisms to improve our group's efficiency and service.
Physical Demands:
The ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
