Department Overview:
The La Follette School of Public Affairs is highly ranked among graduate degree public policy programs and enjoys a worldwide reputation for research and teaching. Our mission is to train leaders and to conduct research to inspire evidence-based policymaking to achieve the public good. Our department’s academic programs include options for pursuing a master’s degree through the 2-year program, accelerated program, combined degree, double degree, or dual degree, as well as two undergraduate certificate programs in health policy and public policy. Our graduate team is comprised of three full-time staff members who manage admissions, recruitment, enrollment, advising, and data requests for our graduate programs. They are a dynamic team committed to student success and fostering the development of future public policy and higher education professionals.

Qualifications:
The La Follette School of Public Affairs evaluates applicants for teaching assistantships by considering a variety of factors. Among these factors are the following: 1. Expertise in and commitment to microeconomics through research or previous coursework. Knowledge of the subject should overlap with the specific emphasis and content areas of the course. 2. Evidence of excellence in teaching – either from prior teaching experience or from qualities that demonstrate intelligence and the ability to communicate material clearly, facilitate discussion, and stimulate student interest (previous teaching experience in a course of microeconomics or applied microeconomics preferred). 3. A high level of competence in the applicant’s home discipline. 4. Current enrollment in or acceptance to a UW-Madison doctoral program, economics or agricultural & applied economics strongly preferred. Currently enrolled students must be in good standing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Efficient time management skills - Proven technical expertise in working with the Microsoft Office suite of products as well as Google - Strong attention to detail - Confident public speaker - Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Position Summary/Job Duties:
PA 819: Advanced Statistical Methods for Public Policy Analysis Course Description: This course equips students with the tools to tackle issues that involve the empirical analysis of public policy problems of the sort they might encounter in a professional environment. Specifically, the course introduces students to the use of multiple regression analysis for analyzing data. The emphasis is on empirical applications. (A previous course syllabus is available at https://lafollette.wisc.edu/academics/courses/pa-819) This is a 50% appointment, responsible for 2-3 discussion sections. Duties: · Attend lectures · Lead discussion sections · Prepare for discussion sections and class content · Grading · Office hours/consultations · Course administration and other duties as assigned
