Department Overview:

The Division of Extension Health & Well-Being Institute supports healthier lives by working with and for the people, communities, and Tribal nations of Wisconsin to build relationships, facilitate learning, and pursue data-informed and culturally-based strategies.

Employment will require a criminal background check
Student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The UW Madison Division of Extension Health & Well-Being Institute invites applications from those with expertise, cultural knowledge, and passion for working with Native American communities.

The Health & Well-Being Intern will work with Extension colleagues in the Menominee County/Nation and alongside Tribal partners to promote community health.

Interns may have the opportunity to select specific projects or areas of focus from the duties listed below. Selections can be tailored to align with individual interests and career goals while supporting overall program objectives.

Support Active Routes to School initiatives, such as walk-to-school events, walking school bus activities, toolkit development, and programming that promotes movement and physical activity during the school day (e.g., active classroom and active recess)

Contribute to food sovereignty projects, which may include assisting with Harvest of the Moon events, supporting local food access initiatives, or engaging in culturally relevant nutrition activities

Support outreach and education efforts with tribal agencies that have adopted nutrition policies, including assistance with putting those policies into practice

Assist with youth mental health programming, such as implementing wellness activities, supporting educational sessions, or contributing to awareness campaigns

Support the development of communication and outreach materials, including social media posts, flyers, press releases, newspaper articles, partner newsletters, and success stories that highlight progress related to the CDC High Obesity Program (HOP) Cooperative Agreement initiatives

Perform additional tasks as needed to support team operations and advance program goals
