Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Education or content related field ● 2 years of teaching experience with precollege students preferred. Student teaching experience will be considered. ● Graduate level coursework, completed or in progress, is preferred. ● Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging content to high school students is preferred. ● Energetic approach to learning ● Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff ● Experience planning and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of all students ● Respect for individual differences and individuality.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
● Experience working with middle school students ● Experience teaching content area subject
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Instructor for the Human Anatomy course for the Badger Precollege STEP Program. Dates run June 21-26, 2026. The instructor for this course will be tasked with planning and teaching a one-week course for students in grades 6-8. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 16 students. Course description listed below: Did you know that in 30 minutes, the human body gives off enough heat to bring a gallon of water to a boil? Or that The human heart pumps about 70 milliliters of blood per beat, and it beats about 100,000 times per day. The human body is a complex machine made up of important systems that keep us active and alive. If you were interested in this fact or in the intricacies of the human body, then this is the class might be for you. Students in this course will take a closer look into the main systems of the human body and their important functions and how they all work together to maintain homeostasis/life. Students will perform animal dissections, simulate active scenarios of systems, design body engineering models, participate in hands on labs, and work on their final project to construct a fully body system. In addition to body system overview, students will also be introduced to nutrition, exercise physiology and immunology. This class is a holistic approach to understanding the body and gain of elevated understanding of systems and anatomy. Instructors are responsible for: ● Planning an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced middle school students. ● Meeting in spring with Badger Precollege administrators to develop curriculum ● Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at UW Madison ● Participating in staff orientation before the program begins ● Attending virtual instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program. ● Completing post program student evaluation materials. Physical Demands:
Instructors will run activities and supervise students on field trips throughout the UW campus. This can involve a substantial amount of movement at times.
