Position Summary/Job Duties:
Instructor and curriculum reviewer for the Topics in Computer Science course for the Accelerated Learning Program. Program dates are June 28th - July 17th, 2026. The instructor’s main role in the program is to design curriculum and be a teacher and a facilitator of learning. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 18 high school students. Course description listed below: If you could build the next algorithm for an emerging tech company, how would you combine math, logic, and code to solve a real-world problem of your own design? This course aims to help you build skills in learning and reasoning through specific topics in computer science. Students will be exposed to basic ideas of programming as well as current developments in computer science technologies. Computer programming impacts social media, digital games, and music. It leads to medical breakthroughs, business innovations, and engineering marvels. Strong math and analytical skills are the only necessary prerequisites needed for studying data structures, algorithms, digital structures and other key programming concepts in this course. No prior programming experience is required; this course is designed for those new to coding and computational physics. It's highly recommended to have taken a course in algebra 1, 2 and geometry. Using real world examples from Google, Netflix, and other corporate trendsetters, students will use programming principles specific to their interests to help them master a specific skill. By the end of the course, you'll have the skills to design and implement a project that integrates Python programming with fundamental concepts in physics, demonstrating your ability to apply computational methods to real-world problems. Instructors are responsible for: ● Developing (or modifying) an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced high school students. ● Revising curriculum following Badger Precollege templates and process (Complete Syllabus including course information, weekly schedule, daily lesson plans, presentation slides, and materials.) ● Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at the UW-Madison ● Participating in staff orientation before the program begins ● Attending instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program. ● Attending opening and closing day events June 28th and July 17th, 2026 ● Leading daily instructional sessions M-F 9:00-: 3:00pm, June 29th - July 17th, 2026, for a group of 8-18 students ● Completing post program student evaluation materials. Instructors can expect to teach eager, curious students with a strong interest in the subject matter. For more information, please visit our website at https://precollege.wisc.edu/alp.
