Department Overview:
The Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) serves over 1,300 students as they move from eighth grade to college graduation, offering innovative programming to support career exploration and self-management skills while building knowledge through experiential learning. Our programming is offered in three distinct units: Madison Precollege, Milwaukee Precollege, and the College Success Center. During the academic year, our precollege team advises Wisconsin students in the Madison and Milwaukee public high schools, creating new pathways to higher education for low-income potential first-generation families. During the summer, our precollege team hosts our students in a robust residential program on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, offering students an opportunity to experience college life and build community in their cohorts, fully supported by our dedicated staff. Our precollege students who gain admission into UW-Madison become college scholars. Our college team offers one-on-one high-touch advising services, unique programming created specifically for our student population, and other high-impact practices to foster student success. Schedule:
Residential Coordinators begin assisting in summer planning (15 hours/week) from May 1 to June 19, 2026. Starting June 20 through August 1st, 2026, the Residential Coordinator will support PEOPLE staff and students in person (24 hours/7days a week). Please note that breaks will be provided during the summer program.

Qualifications:
- Must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student and in good standing for Summer or Fall 2026 classes. - Demonstrated group leadership skills, with an ability to work effectively in groups. - Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills. - Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body and staff. - Energy, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate others. - A strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and high level of maturity. - A genuine interest in working with high school and/or middle school students. - Comfortable exploring issues of equity and social justice. - Ability to provide a high level of discretion and confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications: - Prior residential/student affairs experience preferred. - Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds. - Bi- or multilingual, with international travel or living abroad experience. - Previous experience working with high school students as an RA, camp counselor, tutor, or in another capacity. - Previous supervisory experience.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Supervision/Training: - In collaboration with program leadership, conduct residential staff orientation and - training before the program starts. - Ensure University of Wisconsin-Madison and Youth Program Compliance policies and best practices are being followed among residential staff. - Responsible for ongoing training and coaching of residential staff - Ensure staff are equipped with the required supplies and knowledge to carry out residential duties (running activities, supporting student issues, coordinating field trips, etc.) - Provide leadership and support to residential staff - Assist and ensure that all activities and events are in compliance with student-to-staff ratios as set by the - UW-Madison Office of Youth Protection. - Conduct one-on-one meetings with each PEOPLE Residential full-time staff member after each program finishes. - Conduct daily all-staff meetings. - Evaluate staff on a weekly basis, providing leadership and guidance, addressing any personnel issues. - Serve as the primary contact between residential staff and program staff (program manager, educational content specialists, and instructional staff) - Provide ongoing training throughout the program for all staff. - Collaborate with leadership staff to manage student adjudication processes, including but not limited to writing and filing internal program reports, resolving student disputes and roommate/housing issues, and providing documentation for official campus reporting as needed. Administrative/Operations Responsibilities: - Manage overall operation of residence hall unit and areas used during each program. - Coordinate with instructional staff to ensure a cohesive experience for students. - Support with move-in/move-out schedule for each program. - Support Associate Directors with orientation for each session. - Maintain inventories of residence hall and program equipment, working with program coordinators to obtain new supplies as necessary. - In collaboration with Precollege staff, coordinate final survey processes for use in future program planning. - Report and follow up on damages or safety and security issues with Associate Directors. Community Building Responsibilities: - Organize and run small group activities for program students as needed to support staff days off. - Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and students. - Ensure students and staff adhere to residence hall policies. - Identify and carry out team building/bonding activities for staff during staff training and in between programs. - Student Conduct Responsibilities: - Enforce program behavior and conduct guidelines - Handle immediate crisis. - Serve as the initial disciplinary hearing officer. - Triage and respond to Precollege Incident Reports, elevating to full-time staff or Associate Directors as needed.
Physical Demands:
Residential Coordinators may have to escort students to and from classes across campus and may spend long periods of time on their feet during field trips and other team building activities. This position may require employees to lift up-to 50 pounds during the move-in and event set-up period. This position also spends a significant amount of time outside, which may include an environment with high temperatures or high humidity. We are happy to offer accommodation for these requirements, provided we determine them in advance of the student move-in period!
