Department Overview:
The L&S Academic Advising Services office helps students discover opportunities within L&S, interpret L&S campus policies, and navigate the L&S curriculum through accurate and comprehensive academic advising. The L&S Academic Deans’ Services office provides accurate and comprehensive information about L&S academic rules and procedures and makes discretionary decisions regarding the interpretation and implementation of College policy as it relates to individual cases.

Schedule:
Work shifts will be scheduled as weekly shifts subject to the student's availability in the Spring 2025 semester and each semester following. There may be summer hours available as well.

Qualifications:
Must have completed at least 1 semester at UW-Madison. Must be an undergraduate student who will graduate some time after December 2025. Must be able to start midway through the Spring 2025 term. Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to at least two semesters of service in L&S AAS and ADS.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
High attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once and problem solve in the moment. Good interpersonal and written communication skills. Cover letters will be used to assess written communication skills. Strong critical thinking skills, with an ability to work independently and initiate needed projects and tasks. Strong customer service skills, especially under pressure Ability to work with sensitive documents and maintain confidentiality of student records. The ability to relate to students from a broad spectrum of cultural, economic, ethnic, and regional backgrounds. A commitment to diversity and building an inclusive UW-Madison community. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite products, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Google Docs, Sheets, etc. Your cover letter should take into account the main skills and responsibilities for this position and address which skills and experiences you possess which make you the best fit for this position, and where you may need to grow.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Maintain working knowledge of policies, procedures, and forms related to College of Letters & Science undergraduate academic rules and regulations while gaining knowledge of other units and services available on campus Answer main telephone lines and give accurate academic policy or advising information or direct callers to the appropriate resource Monitor office email accounts and respond to informational questions about academic policy or advising Provide administrative support to professional staff, including appointment preparation and a variety of administrative projects or data compilation Greet students coming to the office, assess their needs, and provide assistance. This includes scheduling and checking in advising or dean appointments and triaging students requesting drop-in advising or dean assistance to provide appropriate referrals Manage lost and found for all of Ingraham Hall Assist office manager with preparation materials and set-up for Faculty Appeals committee meetings Assist with other daily tasks such as checking mail, delivering time sensitive material, organizing office storage spaces, and maintaining appearance of reception area
