Department Overview:
The Fire & Life Safety Team, with the Department of Environment, Health & Safety, is comprised of a small team of fire protection professionals. Fire & Life Safety works to educate campus. This is done in a variety of ways including: annual fire alarm evacuation drills, building specific evacuation route maps, and hands-on fire extinguisher training. We also work behind the scenes to keep UW safe through inspections of buildings and safety equipment. During business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:45 am– 4:00 pm) Typically 10-20 hours weekly; will vary depending on student's availability

Qualifications:
- Able to consistently work at least 10 hours per week throughout the school year - Ability to obtain authorization to drive state vehicles is preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Willing to ask questions when unsure (effective communicator) - Ability to work independently - Detail oriented, quality oriented, and efficient
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Seeking detail-oriented students to perform inspections on multiple types of safety equipment across the UW-Madison campus. Candidates will receive on-the-job training to perform this work. Data entry and other computer work may be done on occasion. Must be an effective communicator, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work on-site. Standing/walking up to the whole shift. Occasional use of computer/mouse/keyboard. Ability to hold & operate hand tools and a drill (will be trained on how to use, if needed)
