Department Overview:

The Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO) provides services for students that are first generation, meet certain federal family income guidelines, and students with documented disabilities. CeO advisors and staff embrace a personal approach and provide support in every aspect of the student’s path to achievement and success.

Wellness Leaders collaborate as a team to plan and facilitate biweekly programming centered around wellness to help CeO students strengthen emotional resilience, identify and reflect on their career goals, and build meaningful connections within the community. This role provides students with the opportunity to develop leadership, event planning, and facilitation skills while contributing to a supportive and engaging environment for CeO scholars.

Schedule:

Must be available up to 4.5 hours per week:

2.5 hours: Bi-weekly meetings on Monday from 4:00 - 6:30pm.
2 hours (minimum): Working at the CeO Front Desk during normal business hours (M-F 8:00 - 4:00). The actual day/time of this shift will depend on applicant availability.

Qualifications:

● Must be a current student affiliated with CeO and be in good academic standing.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Dependability and punctuality.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

● Demonstrated interested in wellness, student success, and community building.
● Comfortable with public speaking, leading discussions, and facilitating activities.
● Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
● Ability to connect and interact professionally and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
● Previous experience with student organizations, peer mentoring, or event planning is preferred but not required.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

1. Event Planning and Coordination:
a. Collaborate with the SWL to plan structured events for CeO community.
b. Develop specific event themes, goals, and activities that support student wellbeing and professional development.
c. Assist with event logistics such as scheduling, space preparation, and materials.
d. Coordinate with guest speakers and campus partners as needed.
e. Prepare estimated event costs and maintain documentation of expenses.

2. Event Facilitation
a. Co-facilitate events with other SWL team members.
b. Lead activities and guide discussions to encourage connection, growth, and reflection.
c. Assist with event set-up, facilitation, and clean-up.
d. Maintain welcoming and positive environment to encourage student engagement.

3. Team Collaboration
a. Attend and actively participate in weekly team meetings.
b. Practice facilitation with SWL team members leading up to events.
c. Provide feedback to improve programming and engagement.
d. Collaborate and communicate with team members to ensure smooth execution of event.

4. Community Engagement and Outreach
a. Promote events and encourage participation.
b. Maintain communication with event guests and collaborators.
c. Support efforts to create welcoming environment for students to reach out and connect.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift 40 pounds.
