Department Overview:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is an engine of scientific discovery, with researchers working across the spectrum of agricultural and life sciences. The college’s mission is to advance and share knowledge, discover solutions, and promote opportunities in food and agriculture, bioenergy, health, the environment, and human well-being. The Office of External Relatons is responsible for the communications needs of CALS, including press releases, social media, student recruitment, marketing and promotions, alumni and stakeholder engagement, enewsletters, and publications, such as Grow magazine.

Qualifications:

Must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong computer and software knowledge (Microsoft Office, WordPress or other web content management tool, email, Google Workspace)

Strong communication skills – written and oral

Excellent organizational skills

Attention to detail

Punctual and reliable

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Primary duties: 1) Assist with Grow magazine production (web content and photo management, potential opportunities for writing articles, proofreading print layouts), and 2) help manage Grow distribution/logistics (manage Grow inbox, mailing list maintenance, Final Exam coordination, mailing print copies, campus distribution of print copies)

Other possible duties: 1) CALS web content management assistance (eCALS, CALS News, cals.wisc.edu); 2) long-term special projects (e.g., archiving, filing, digitizing); 3) general clerical and office upkeep duties (e.g., gathering and distributing mail, supply organization, light cleaning); 4) event preparation or support; 5) help produce CALS in the News; 6) serve as back up for other student assistants.

Physical Demands:

Ability to perform general office tasks.

Ability to lift ~20 pounds.
