Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled at UW-Madison and is pursuing a degree in Life Sciences Communication, Communication Arts, Journalism, or a related field, with at least one year of undergraduate studies remaining.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required:

• An interest in marketing and communications for the fields of engineering, science, and technology
• Ability and willingness to understand and convey technical information and develop new skills
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and learn quickly
• Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback
• Deadline-driven and detail-oriented
• Collaborative work ethic
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Interest in graphic design
• Interest in event planning and management

Preferred:
• Working knowledge of Canva and/or InDesign
• Working knowledge of social media including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook
• Knowledge of or interest in social media management and analytics
• Knowledge of or interest in photography and videography

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Summary of Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff to support the strategic objectives of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department within the College of Engineering. The candidate will be mentored in a variety of professional areas including strategic communication of science-and technology-related information and graphic design, along with digital marketing strategy, development, and implementation. Much of the work requires working independently and efficiently. In-person meetings and work will be scheduled around your class schedule each semester. The ideal candidate is available to assist with event management during the 29th annual Civil and Environmental Engineering Golf Outing on Friday, October 9.

Overview of Job Duties:
• Design visual assets to inform, educate, inspire or persuade targeted audiences like prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni
• Contribute to the planning, development, and distribution of internal and external communications, including blog posts, social media posts, and newsletters
• Contribute to the development and design of communications materials
• Contribute to the development of marketing strategies, plans, projects, and campaigns
• Edit, revise and proofread materials
• Assist with event planning and management
