Schedule:
Chemistry classes meet during the 8-week summer term from June 15 through August 9. Mandatory TA training occurs the week of June 8. Organic Chemistry Laboratory (CHEM 344) sections meet in-person. Organic chemistry I (CHEM 343) and Organic Chemistry II (CHEM 345) meet online. See Course Search & Enroll for specific meeting times and modalities. Exact section assignments are not finalized until about a week before the start of classes.

Number of Positions:
1-3 positions. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering are eligible. Applicants must have a strong chemistry background, with completion of general and organic chemistry. Additional advanced courses are a plus. A minimum overall GPA of 3.00 is required. An overall GPA of 3.30 or higher is strongly preferred. A Chemistry GPA of 3.30 or better is strongly preferred. Fourth year students are preferred. Third year students with an especially strong chemistry background will be considered. Students for whom English is a second language may be required to take the SPEAK test.

The successful candidate will have subject matter expertise, motivation to educate students, excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work with students of diverse backgrounds, be a team player, and be dependable, professional, and willing to learn.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The summer TA position in Chemistry is a 50% appointment, averaging 20 hours per week over the 8-week term, plus one week of training. For CHEM 344 Organic Laboratory, UA-TAs are responsible for teaching one lab section of ~18 students. For CHEM 343 and 345, UA-TAs are responsible for teaching two discussion sections with ~30 students per section and attending whole class meetings. Other UA-TA responsibilities for all courses include attending staff meetings, holding office hours, proctoring exams, and grading. Required training begins Monday, June 8 and continues through Friday, June 12, 2026. If you cannot attend in-person training, you should not apply. To teach online CHEM 343 or CHEM 345, applicants must reside in the U.S., preferably in Wisconsin, during the summer term and must abide by a remote work agreement.
