Department Overview:

Bindery jobs include sewing of book blocks using different methods of sewing. Cutting and assembling covers for books. Typesetting the spines and covers of books and other miscellaneous binding tasks. No experience needed. We will train. Can work full time in the summer and move to part time for the fall when classes start.

Schedule:

Work your hours in between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. We will work with your schedule to set up a weekly schedule that will work around your classes.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $18.00

Qualifications:

No experience necessary as we will train you. Good attention to detail is important.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Artistic abilities helpful. Good measuring skills. Good hand / eye coordination. Experience in building things, crafts or playing sports are also all are good qualities for binding books as well.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

We rebind books or bind new ones. Some of the jobs will be:
*Sewing - Working with a machine that sews the pages of a book together.
*Trimming - Using a guillotine trimmer to trim the edges of the pages smooth.
*Casemaking - Cutting the parts of the cover and then assembling them together.
*Typesetting - Typing the titles of books into a program and insuring good fit on the book.
*Shipping - Packing books in boxes and using software to ship via UPS and USPS.

Physical Demands:

Most jobs involve standing and moving for most of the day. Working with your hands and paying good attention to the book in front of you as each book is usually different. Some bending and lifting, but is generally light.
