Department Overview:
The Loka Initiative is an education and outreach platform for faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our mission is to support faith-led environmental and climate efforts locally and around the world by helping build capacity of faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions, and by creating new opportunities for projects, partnerships and public outreach. We also carry out research and develop resources on building inner and community resilience to address eco-anxiety, climate distress, and other ecological emotions. Loka is an interdisciplinary partnership between different programs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. It is housed at the Center for Healthy Minds in collaboration with: The 4W Initiative Center for Interfaith Dialogue Division of Continuing Studies Global Health Institute Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies Office of Sustainability Religious Studies Program

Schedule:
5-15 hours a week, can work mostly remote with some supervision but will require some on-site attendance to staff an event or attend meetings.

Qualifications:
Must be: Currently enrolled undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Committed to this position through the 2026-2027 academic year Able to work independently on specific duties and is reliable Demonstrated interest in intersectional and justice approaches to faith initiatives, Indigenous movements, and environmental and climate solutions
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Has experience with the following: communications, outreach, media, website design tools Has experience engaging with communities from diverse backgrounds (e.g. race, gender, age, profession, etc.) Has familiarity with Asana, Office 365, Google Suite, Squarespace, Canva, and social media platforms Experience with any of the following is a plus: video editing software, social media copy, event planning
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Loka Program Assistants are expected to: Support communications and outreach work including social media, newsletter, website, and Youtube. Help create visual infographics and info tools, including posters, banners, etc. Review and organize Loka original media database including audio, visual and literary resources Help staff in-person and virtual events (3/ year on average) Support ongoing research and writing for social media, events, and publications
Physical Demands:
Minimal. Have to be on-site to set up and break down before, during and after events.
