Department Overview:
The Division for Teaching and Learning is home to the Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring; High Impact Practices; Indigenous Education and Our Shared Future; the Morgridge Center for Public Service; the Office of Academic and Career Success; the Rebecca M. Blank Center for Campus History; Student Engagement and Scholarship Programs; Student Learning Assessment; Testing and Evaluation Services; and the Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE). The annual Undergraduate Symposium, hosted within DTL, showcases undergraduate research, scholarly work, community-based projects, art, and creativity from all areas of study at UW–Madison including the humanities, arts, biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, and computer data and information sciences. OEL Interns also have access to individualized mentorship, structured professional development workshops, and 1-on-1 career advising that will support their growth professionally and personally as they work in environments dedicated to supporting student success at UW.

Schedule:
Hours to be completed between 9-5pm, with occational planned evening and weekend hours. Flexible schedule to be worked out with your supervisor to avoid academic/class conflicts.

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled UW-Madison undergraduate student - In good academic standing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Strong written communication skills, including drafting professional emails, invitations, and promotional materials - Organizational and project coordination skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks - Facilitation skills, including leading focus groups and coordinating group discussions - Event planning experience, particularly academic or student-facing events - Awareness of disciplines within the arts, humanities, and social sciences - General understanding of higher education environments - Basic content design skills (e.g., formatting emails, creating simple promotional or web content) - Collaboration and interpersonal skills for working with students, faculty, and staff - Event support skills, including scheduling, logistics coordination, and session facilitation - Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment - Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences (students, faculty, visitors)
Position Summary/Job Duties:
- Assist with preparing and organizing materials for the 2027 Undergraduate Symposium - Propose and help implement promotion and outreach plan, with a focus on arts and humanities and social sciences - Lead focus group and engagement for student members of the Undergraduate Symposium advisory committee - Research and make recommendations for process alternatives - Design communications for visitors - invitations, RSVP, and email communications - Assist with designing feedback mechanisms for presenters - Contribute to presenter and mentor preparation materials - Organize and facilitate presentation practice sessions for students - Explore options for highlighting presenters on the Undergraduate Symposium website - Other administrative support duties as requested
