Department Overview:

Come join our team in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment within the Division of Enrollment Management at UW-Madison. We are admissions professionals dedicated to recruiting, admitting and enrolling the next generation of UW-Madison undergraduates.

Schedule:

Hours will be variable. You can expect to work between 0 and 10 hours per week. Some weeks will be busier than others based on event schedules and social media needs. All event dates will be communicated in advance.

Typical shifts include (but are not limited to):
-Portions of daytime events (7 am- 4 pm on select Fridays and Saturdays)
-Weeknight evening staff meetings (1x per month)
-Weeknight evening virtual student panels (3-5x per month)
-Weekday event prep help (Flexible based on class schedule)

Ideal candidates should have daytime availability on Fridays and some weeknight availability for virtual panels (ex: 6:45-8:15pm). Most commonly Tues/Thurs.

This position is currently available through Fall 2026, with the possibility of renewal for the Spring 2027 semester. Friday availability in the Spring is very important.

Qualifications:

- Required: UW-Madison undergraduate student in good academic standing
- Required: Demonstrated campus involvement in student clubs/orgs, volunteering, or other campus jobs
- Required: Excellent communication skills
- Preferred: Previous experience with public speaking
- Preferred: Previous leadership experience
- Ability to meet schedule expectations as outlined above

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Effective communicator, including public speaking to large groups in person and virtually
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player
- Knowledgeable about the university and campus life
- Open to feedback and ability to adapt to change
- Comfortable being featured on social media and online (identity safeguards will be in place)
- Comfortable speaking to your own lived experiences and identities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Willing to perform other duties as assigned

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Student Ambassadors will serve as representatives of the UW-Madison student experience during in person and virtual prospective and admitted student programming, as well as on social media and online via OAR communication channels. Additional duties include event preparation and event day staffing. Past experience with public speaking or interpersonal communication is ideal.

The Badger experience is unique to every student, and we want to be able to share that with prospective and admitted students and families. Therefore, ambassadors should be comfortable speaking about their lived experiences and identities to a variety of audience groups and sizes.

The Student Ambassadors should represent a variety of backgrounds, identities, academic interest areas, and campus involvement.

Job Responsibilities:
-Apply personal experiences and knowledge when speaking about UW-Madison on panels at all prospective and admitted student events, both in person and virtually
-Social media: At the direction of an OAR permanent staff member, brainstorm and generate content for OAR social media pages
-Event staffing: Mingle with families at events, provide wayfinding around campus, answer event-related questions, support event set-up and teardown
-Event preparation: Prepare giveaways, count and organize materials, cut programs and nametags, and reconcile post-event materials
-Maintain confidentiality and compliance with FERPA laws regarding sensitive information provided by prospective students
-Potential to create and support projects as assigned by the Office of Admissions and Recruitment
