The Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) supports student and institutional success by coordinating admissions, financial aid, and registrar functions with campus partners and external context. Within DEM, this position sits in the Office of the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and works directly with the Associate Director for SEM Data & Storytelling.

Schedule:

Up to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. Hours are flexible and we will work around your class schedule. Remote work options are available and by arrangement with the supervisor, but some on-campus presence is required for collaboration, training, and events. |

Qualifications:
|
A currently enrolled UW–Madison graduate student in good standing.
All majors and fields of study are encouraged to apply. Additional consideration is given to students pursuing a graduate degree in data science, business or operations analysis, educational policy, statistics, information science, geographic information systems, or a related field.
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Can take a loosely defined question and turn it into a workable analysis
- Is comfortable with ambiguity and asks clarifying questions before diving in
- Is attentive to detail in data work and careful about accuracy
- Can explain findings in writing to a non-technical reader
- Is reliable, works well with a supervisor's guidance, and takes initiative when appropriate
You will be trained on the job. We are more interested in your willingness to develop these skills than in how polished they are today.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The following experience is preferred, but not required. We do not expect any one candidate to bring all of it, and we are glad to teach what you do not yet know:
- Working with data to answer a question: pulling, cleaning, analyzing, and summarizing
- Any one or more of: a data analysis language or environment (e.g., Python, R, SQL), a spreadsheet tool (e.g., Excel), or a data visualization tool (e.g., Tableau)
- Writing that makes analysis accessible and clear to a general audience
- Reading and synthesizing research, policy, or news sources into short, useful summaries
- Managing several tasks against deadlines and communicating progress to a supervisor
- Cloud-based document tools (e.g., Box, Google Drive) and web conferencing tools (e.g., Teams, Zoom)

Position Summary/Job Duties:
|
This position provides analytical support under the direction of the Associate Director for SEM Data & Storytelling. The work is a supervised apprenticeship: you will learn the enrollment domain by working in it and grow toward more independent analysis over the appointment. Duties are listed in priority order.
1. Support enrollment analysis from start to finish: clarify the question with the Associate Director, assemble and analyze the relevant data, and produce a clean, short output a busy reader can act on. This is the primary work of the role.
2. Monitor a defined set of internal and external enrollment signals, and prepare briefings to leadership to notify or explain variations.
3. Help build a shared reference guide of enrollment data terms, documenting how core terms are defined and how definitions differ across offices, as these questions surface through analysis.
4. Prepare data visualizations, tables, and short written materials that communicate findings clearly and consistently.
Other analytical and project duties as assigned.

The work of this position is computer-based: reading material on a screen and entering text and data using a keyboard or equivalent input method, typically from a seated or standing workstation. These functions can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
