Department Overview:

 The Urban & Regional Food Systems lab, is hiring students to help with the small grains research program. The work includes growing oats and winter wheat in the greenhouse in the 2026' fall season; and helping to prepare trials for the future 2027' field season.

Schedule:

 Monday to Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM is the usual schedule for the lab, specific times can be arranged according to student's schedule.

 Previous experience is not essential.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Responsibility, commitment, good communication skills, and teamwork are required. Patience, concentration and enthusiasm to affront repetitive tasks will be valued.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The work includes:
Generational advancement using Speed breeding in the greenhouse, planting, tending and harvests plants as well as miscellaneous tasks associated to generational advancement.
Post-harvest activities such as seed threshing, cleaning, weight, inventory and store.
Experiment preparation for next season: seed preparation (seed packing, seed preparation, and miscellaneous activities related to experiment preparation) plots organization, and field supplies.
Greenhouse work: plant, water, grow, sample, and harvest plants.

Physical Demands:

Moving/carrying seed boxes. Dust exposure.
