Department Overview:

Ranked 13th globally and seventh nationally, the UW–Madison Department of Mathematics is devoted to research and teaching, and we want to spread our excitement about mathematics to the rest of the world.

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Minimum: 10 Maximum: 12

Schedule:

10-12 hours per week. Work schedule will be determined with supervisor at the time of hire. All hours will fall between 8-4:30 M-F. Evening and weekend hours are not required, though occasional opportunities may arise for department special events.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $15.00 per hour

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled undergraduate student (any major) in good academic standing at UW-Madison. Freshman or sophomores preferred. Previous customer service experience or experience in an office environment is preferred. Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Effective communicator with the ability to work both independently and with others. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. Desire to learn quickly and take initiative. Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Assemble course materials for instructors. Distribute office supplies to instructional staff. Restock supplies and monitor inventory. Answer phone calls and route messages from the department email account. Sort and deliver mail and packages. File for retention purposes. Move furniture and boxes of paper as needed. Prepare and deliver coffee and refreshments for weekly seminars. Clean and organize department spaces. Greeting visitors and providing directions. Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift 35-50 pounds occasionally.
