Department Overview:

The Biogarage is a shared research resource that houses advanced instrumentation, technologies, and servies that are available to researchers across campus. The Biogarage aims to foster innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. By lowering barriers to access and fostering collaboration among diverse research groups, the Biogarage accelerates scientific discovery and innovation. The facility works closely with campus core facilities, including the Genome Editing Core, to support a broad range of research activities.

Schedule can be flexibile, but it is much more useful to be able to come in 3 or more times per week.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $18.00 per hour

Qualifications:

Current undergraduate or graduate student, preferrably in a life science or related field

Interest in molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, or biomedical research

Self-starter who takes ownership of responsibilities and consistently follows tasks through to completion

Prior laboratory experience preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong organizational and time-management skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records

Ability to learn laboratory procedures and operate scientific instrumentation

Service-oriented mindset when interacting with facility users and researchers

Initiative and enthusiasm for helping develop and grow a new campus research resource

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Assist with daily operations of the Biogarage shared research facility

Perform routine laboratory assays and workflows

Support instrument scheduling and user coordination

Communicate with researchers regarding facility access, training, and services

Maintain laboratory organization, supplies, and equipment readiness

Assist with documentation and operational recordkeeping

Provide occasional support for Genome Editing Core activities

Contribute ideas and support efforts to expand and improve Biogarage services and user engagement

Physical Demands:

Ability to work in a laboratory environment

Ability to stand for extended periods while performing laboratory tasks

Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds

Manual dexterity sufficient to operate laboratory instruments and handle small laboratory materials

Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
