Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with middle and high school students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles is preferred Demonstrates an energetic approach to mentoring youth Experience working in environments with changing circumstances and response to new situations with flexibility, openness, and confidence Experience cultivating a strong sense of inclusivity and community-oriented principles Must be willing to plan and execute programming events and activities Experience working and living in a residence hall preferred Must be willing to complete pre-program trainings, as outlined by the UW-Madison Office of Youth Protection & Badger Precollege Preferred currently enrolled in college or university with at least 3.0 GPA Cumulative Preference will be given to applicants whose schedule and availability appropriately aligns with the BPC programming season

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Position Description: The Residential Assistant position is vital to a successful programming season. Our RA position is best visualized as a hybrid of a traditional house fellow at UW Madison and a summer camp counselor. Residential Assistants live in a UW campus residence hall with the students and other RAs during the program. All of our students are minors, which requires special attention be given to supervision, ratios, and activity planning. Our residential programs will have a headcount of 80-160 students, and RAs are responsible for being vigilant to safety concerns and ensuring a positive learning environment. Under the supervision of our Residential Director (RD), RAs will be engaged in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborating with team members. In addition to direct job responsibilities, this position offers opportunities to develop soft skills that can be translated into just about any profession. Our RAs have a transformative impact on our students, and we are looking for employees who share our vision of transformative education and experiential learning. Responsibilities Include: Promote student engagement through planning or executing social, cultural, and educational activities in afternoon, evening and weekends. Serve as a peer resource and mentor, helping students navigate academic, personal, and social challenges. Ensure adherence to safety rules and residence hall regulations to protect student welfare, including OYP policies surrounding professional boundaries and behavior Respond to emergencies or unexpected situations at any time of day or night Maintain visibility and availability in common areas whenever students are present Work closely with other residential staff to support programming and daily operations Think critically to troubleshoot issues and resolve conflicts among residents Assist with student check-in/check-out and orientation processes Help manage program logistics, such as schedules, attendance, and event coordination Document and report incidents or concerns to supervisors when necessary Participate in all RA and large group staff meetings and orientation Expectations: Transportation: RAs are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from campus before and after their assigned program(s) Student Engagement: Whenever students are present in the building, staff are available and interacting with them in lounge and group spaces. Responsiveness: RAs must be prepared to respond to diverse situations that may arise at any time of day or night. Professional Conduct: Employees are expected to remain drug‑ and alcohol‑free while on duty and whenever in the presence of students. Smoking and drinking are not permitted within the dorm area for the duration of the program. Team Collaboration: RAs work closely with other residential staff throughout the summer and are expected to act as team players. This includes: Practicing open and mature communication Demonstrating flexibility and initiative in planning and running activities both independently and with colleagues Thinking critically to troubleshoot issues and concerns as they arise Reflect and operationalize feedback given from supervisor(s) Priority Application Window closes at 11pm on Friday October 26, 2026. Physical Demands:
RAs will facilitate activities and supervise students during activities throughout the UW campus and larger Madison city area. This can involve a substantial amount of movement every day.
