Position Summary
The Nurse Coordinator will demonstrate a sound knowledge base and decision making ability in direct provision of effective and comprehensive nursing care for designated patient population.
*This is a staff nurse position.*
Responsibilities
- Obtain appropriate history including medical history, current medications, and allergies. Perform physical, psychological and cognitive status assessments of patients. Monitor vital signs. Perform POC testing for glucose, creatinine, and urine pregnancy.
- Explain procedures to patients and/or caregivers, including preparation phone calls.
- Assess patients before administration of radioactive material for PET/CT or contrast for MR or CT procedures.
- Establish intravenous access for contrast administration. Follow sterile technique for PORT/PICC access. Draw lab work as necessary.
- Responsible for monitoring arterial line on the research participants if needed.
- Provide safe and accurate administration of contrast, radioactive material, medication and intravenous fluids in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards for all MR, CT, and PET/CT imaging.
- Monitor patient while in the imaging area for change in status and implement appropriate intervention; contact physician if needed.
- Initiate care and discharge plan for patient's pre and post imaging procedures.
- Identifies and corrects problems as appropriate with all critical occurrences reported to the next level of authority.
- Responsible for performing and documenting required equipment testing related to patient care.
- Inventory, store, and order medication and supplies related to patient care.
- Evaluate patients prophylactically medicated for claustrophobia and contrast allergies. Ensure and document pre-medicated patients have escort when leaving the facility.
- Document all aspects of care in the patient's EHR.
- Follow MR Safety, Radiation Safety, EHS, and institutional safety guidelines.
- Collaborates with MRI and PET Center staff and faculty to ensure proper communication.
- Ensures that all patient, patient's family, as well as coworkers receive prompt attention and are treated with respect no matter how limited the contact.
- Conforms to all applicable HIPAA, OSHA, billing compliance and safety guidelines.
- Provide coverage in other practice sites, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
- New York State RN license and a minimum of two years of Radiology experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- BCL, ACLS and PALS preferred. Radiology MRI /CT and PET experience preferred.
