Position Summary

The Human Genetics Resources Core laboratory (Lab) processes and stores clinical samples to be used in genetic research. The preparation, storage and databasing of these clinical samples is the major role of this core facility laboratory.  Please note, we don’t do basic research in this Lab.


Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for receiving and processing blood samples to obtain plasma (P) and serum (S); these biofluids are aliquot in cryovials and stored in -80oC freezers. In addition, spinal cord fluid (CSF) will be clarified by centrifugation, aliquot and stored as previously described.  Blood genomic DNA preparations need to be characterized by nanodrop and by gel electrophoresis to evaluate its integrity, before plating in microwell plates to be sent for genetic analysis. The present members of the lab will train the newcomer in these standard HGRC Lab protocols.

The candidate should be dedicated, attentive to details, very organized and able to work in a team.  The work in this lab requires these personal characteristics.

The chosen candidate will share basic laboratory maintenance duties with other members of our group, including ordering supplies, monitoring incubators and organizing the plasticware stocks and others as required.


Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Must be proficient in excel.
  • Good communication skills are necessary.
