The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Incumbent will serve as the program manager for NIH funded projects – including global training programs in data science and other related programs focusing on environmental and climate change science in Africa. The responsibilities include working under the supervision of the PI at Columbia University (Dr. Kiros Berhane), in close co-ordination with other project PIs and faculty Co-Investigators from Columbia University as well as other US based and/or global partners.

Foreign travel is required for this position; 2-4 trips per year, each trip 3-7 days long.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee the launching and day-to-day activities of projects, including MS training programs in data science for health. Coordinate meetings among team members across all partner universities and with partner projects. Document all meeting proceedings and follow-up on action items. 40%

  • Coordinate steps for teaching material developments, short term training programs at Columbia (for remote training and visits by Scholars) and in-country training activities - in close collaboration with counterparts at partner universities. 25%

  • Assist with preparations of summary and progress reports to NIH.  Participate in the monthly meetings, working group activities and annual network meetings for the NIH wide Data Science Initiative (DS-I) for Africa - typically held at NIH headquarters or one of the participating countries in the DS-I Africa network. 15%

  • Assist with all coordination activities related to program monitoring and evaluation. 10%

  • Coordinating (and participating in) travel activities by trainers and trainees, in collaboration with counterparts at partner universities. These activities will be conducted at Columbia University and at partner universities in the US and/or globally. 5%

  • Other duties as assigned. 5%


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in training and experience plus a minimum of five (5) years related experience.

  • Must possess advanced Excel skills, including familiarity with the creation and use of complex pivot tables, lookup functions, and other features for formatting, manipulating, and analyzing data.
  •  
  • Familiarity and skills with website management and communication using various social media platforms.

  • Familiarity with grants pre-and-post award management in academic research or similar environments is a must.

  • Outstanding diplomatic and communications skills; ability to build collaborations and gain buy-in from clients and other partners within an organization. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately directly with senior principal investigators. Must be able to communicate effectively on a technical level with operations personnel in central offices.

  • Exceptional judgment and priority- setting; demonstrated ability to produce accurate results and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated, advanced analytical skills and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports on complex program operations and present them clearly to others.

  • Possess familiarity with relevant federal regulations as well as typical institutional requirements and best practices for program management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline is highly desired.
