The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, the Assistant Director assists in coordinating the admission process that meets targeted enrollment goals and enrolls a talented, qualified, diverse student body that enhances the reputation of the Columbia School of Social Work. The Assistant Director will be the primary source of communication and outreach to prospective students, applicants and admitted students. The incumbent will advise applicants on admissions requirements and assist the Director with the management of inquiry communication and application processing.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the admissions application process and field prospective and applicant inquiries. Advise applicants on admissions requirements and policies, and communicate program, School and University information to prospects, inquiries and applicants to the School.
- Recruit, train and manage student ambassadors.
- Represent the School of Social Work to prospective students and the general public through a diverse array of outreach programs, activities and communications.
- Respond to information requests, providing admissions literature, and regular and sustained outreach and follow-up to prospects and applicants.
- Provide day-to-day and overall administrative and operational support for the admissions office. Coordinate graduate information sessions, School-hosted receptions and other programs.
- Train administrative and student support staff in use of recruitment CRM, document scanning, and application file maintenance, tracking, and reporting.
- Conduct School and University tours for prospective students, arrange class visits, and provide support for other customized recruitment and yield activities as assigned.
- Perform other relevant duties as needed and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- A minimum of 2-4 years of related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must demonstrate a strong customer focus with excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communication and computer skills required (proficiency with MS Office Suite).
- Ability to communicate complex information simply, both verbally and in writing, required. Candidates must possess strong skills in diplomacy, tact and discretion.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, work under pressure and deadlines, and carry out multiple tasks required.
- The ideal candidate should be personable and friendly, dependable, creative, resourceful and flexible.
- Must be able to collaborate well with team members and perform work independently.
- Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess patience, tact, and an ability to function effectively with a broad constituency.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree and/or work experience in Social Work and/or Higher Education is desirable.
