The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The State Pre-College Enrichment Program (S-PREP) is a free high school and college preparation program for 7th -12th grade students who reside in New York City. The objective of the program is to increase the number of underrepresented minority practitioners in healthcare and STEM professions. This opportunity designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related STEM fields. The program offers academic enrichment courses that are designed to prepare students for success in math and science. The program also offers career development workshops, college counseling services, field trips and college tours. 

Tutors for the SPREP program will provide support for middle and high school students who are enrolled in math and science courses that are offered by the program. Participating students come from diverse backgrounds and generally have varying academic skillsets. Ideal candidates for the SPREP Tutor positions are those interested in working with students who fit the demographics previously described. Course offerings will include, but may not be limited to Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Geometry and Pre-calculus. 


Responsibilities

Tutors report to the Program Administrators for the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing tutoring services for SPREP students in small groups or 1:1 session
  • Meeting with students to review homework assignments in respective math/science subject area(s)
  • Identifying specific topics and/subject content that present challenges for students
  • Assisting students with test preparation
  • Providing feedback regarding students’ performance for bi-annual evaluations
  • Providing recommendations for program improvements
  • Completing administrative/clerical duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience

  • Full time CUIMC students


Other Requirements

  • Education and training in science and/or mathematics 
  • Demonstration of leadership and organization skills
