The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Career Advancement Center (CAC), in partnership with the greater SIPA community, provides students and alumni with the tools, connections and preparation to advance their careers. CAC serves as a hub, placing students and alumni at the center of a network of resources, including staff, faculty, peers, alumni and employers. Reporting to the Executive Director of Career Services, the incumbent provides leadership, vision and strategic planning in developing programs and services to assist SIPA students and alumni in achieving their career and educational goals and aspirations. Assumes major role in decision making and policy formulation for the Career Advancement Center.


Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, vision and strategic planning in developing programs and services to assist students and alumni in achieving their career and educational goals;
  • Provides individual career counseling to SIPA students and alumni on specific techniques for marketing their professional degrees through cultivation of job search strategies, interview preparation, as well as resume and cover letter writing skills;
  • Develops and co-teaches a multi-section Professional Development course for the student population;
  • Creates communication strategy and student engagement strategy;
  • Conducts job and internship search strategy sessions and career-related workshops for students and alumni;
  • Contributes to and participates in CAC planning and assessment of its work.  Leads initiatives and collaborates with staff on development and implementation of initiatives.  Provides reports on activities and program outcomes to the Executive Director;
  • Conducts mock interviews and mock case interviews with SIPA students and alumni;
  • Updates/edits all career-related written materials published in CAC;
  • Develops specific content materials and curricula for training sessions and workshops;
  • Designs programming and services unique to the needs of international graduate students as well as alumni of the School;
  • Performs data collection and analyses to better provide program delivery;
  • Proactively creates and maintains active relationships with faculty and administrators;
  • Assists with preparing and managing the annual budget;
  • Trains staff to help with the career development programs;
  • Supervises two full-time staff members and, in the absence of the Executive Director, manages the entire CAC staff;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required and a minimum of five years' experience in career education and counseling required.
  • Thorough familiarity with a variety of employment sectors, including banks, businesses, and domestic and international governmental and non-profit agencies essential.
  • Excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills required.
  • Senior management, supervisory, and budget management experience a must.
  • Solid customer service skills essential. 
  • An active commitment to equity in all forms, including the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Computer skills, including Power Point and Excel, required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred. 
  • Familiarity with international/public affairs highly desirable.
  • Additional years of experience in career education and counseling a plus.
