The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for defining and engaging with Columbia Global online audiences while producing memorable and impactful digital content. We are looking for someone who is passionate about our mission and excited to share the story and impact of Columbia Global through creative content.


Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Senior Director, Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will:

  • Support the maintenance of the Columbia Global websites (including Columbia World Projects and Columbia Global Centers), managing the sites, including the back end; overseeing website upgrades, enhancements, and redesigns; troubleshooting issues; tracking analytics; undertaking ongoing content review; and identifying ways to increase site visibility and traffic in concert with developers, designers, and staff.
  • Manage all social media accounts for Columbia Global entities with the goal of communicating the mission and individual projects. 
  • Identify ways to grow our audience and monitor engagement.
  • Conduct keyword research and use SEO guidelines to optimize content.
  • Work with the Senior Director to populate digital platforms with engaging and on-brand infographics, editorial and multimedia content for Columbia Global events for online distribution.
  • Post content either originating from communications or provided by other teams (e.g., tools and resources).
  • Support the development and promotion of online platforms that will serve as spaces for increased engagement, innovative thinking, and strategic planning. 
  • Manage email communications, including planning, coordinating, producing, and disseminating e-newsletters and drafting/designing MailChimp eblasts to announce news and events to external constituents.
  • Spearhead the cleanup and management of Columbia Global contact lists in MailChimp, working with an external MailChimp expert
  • Traffic news items to university and external news channels.
  • Manage the dissemination and promotion of internal and external activities and events.
  • Provide input into marketing and campaign strategies and plans, especially in the communication of web/digital best practices.
  • Perform data analysis on external digital communications, including regular quality assurance reviews to assess user experience and clear information architecture to ensure site optimization.
  • Formulate recommendations and incorporate learning from analytics data into ongoing maintenance of the site.
  • Stay up-to-date with digital media technologies and trends and incorporate them into content strategies and tactics.
  • Maintain database of Columbia Global brand approved photographs and identify and arrange to use videographers, photographers, who can take images for the database etc.
  • Leverage existing Columbia University resources, schools and offices to support the development of compelling and impactful digital content.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent required—minimum four years related experience.

Other Requirements

  • Design background
  • Experience with video, photography, and archiving digital images for future use.
  • Experience designing and implementing online marketing campaigns
  • Advanced knowledge of email distribution and analytics, e.g., MailChimp.
  • Experience with content management systems
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and InDesign tools and ability to edit digital content.
  • Global experience is a plus.
