Position Summary
The research assistant will work in the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health (CCCEH) in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, at the Mailman School of Public Health. The research assistant will be expected to help run participant visits from the Fair Start and Sibling Cohorts as part of a large, federally funded multi-site research collective (ECHO). The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of environmental exposures on women and their children in Northern Manhattan and South Bronx. The candidate will be responsible for a variety of administrative and research tasks, including: consenting study participants, scheduling, arranging transportation, interviewing participants, administering psychological assessments, administering psychological, behavioral, and environmental rating scales. Candidate will also be coordinating the collection of biological samples. Candidate will also be responsible for processing, storing, checking data and transferring data to the Center’s data management core and/or laboratory.
Responsibilities
The candidate will assist with human subjects research and administrative duties as needed to maintain a caseload of research participants enrolled in a longitudinal birth cohort, including:
- Administering psychological assessments (50%)
- Administering several psychological, behavioral and nutritional rating scales and structured interviews to adults and or children (20%)
- Communication with participants, scheduling visits, arranging transportation (10%)
- Collecting biological samples and transportation of biological samples to the laboratory for processing (5%).
- Checking and transferring data to the Center’s data management core and/or laboratory (5%)
- Administration activities related to research include preparing study paperwork, filing, and other tasks as needed to provide administrative support to the Center (5%)
- Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested (5%)
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, psychology, or related science and 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. This individual must be able to speak, read, and write in Spanish fluently.
