The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Physician's Assistant will assist the Orthopedic Surgeon's practice to include clinical, administrative, and direct patient care contact in both the office and hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Act as first assist to the physician
- Take, record and document patient history/encounter
- Confer w/ physicians about patient findings and potential diagnosis w/ established course of treatment; formulate and update patient care plans
- Review lab results, x-rays and MRI/CT results and communicate to physician and patient
- Provide diagnosis and treatment services to established and postoperative patients
- Administer therapeutic injections and perform minor procedures as needed
- Work closely and collaboratively with the team (office coordinator, nurse, resident, fellow) to provide high quality patient care; coordinate appointment and surgical scheduling templates w/ team
- Perform patient education duties (i.e. show surgical videos, provide brochures, direct patients to additional resources) and review pre-operative instructions to explain surgical process to surgical patients
- Ensure all necessary office notes, lab results and films are presented for residents and attending's review prior to surgery
- Triage telephone calls; Return patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; document action taken in patient chart
- Telephone prescription requests to pharmacy; document action in patient chart and obtain physician signature of approval
- Oversee appointment bookings with appointment scheduling team and ensure emergency situations are scheduled appropriately; maintain timely flow of patients
- Complete clinical portions of disability and insurance forms
- Maintain surgical log
- Make rounds with or on behalf of physician
- Assist surgeon in operating room of the hospital and ambulatory surgery center including performing safety checks during patient positioning, mastering leg positioning, retractor placement, and facilitating surgical flow
- Film and edit surgical videos for teaching, talks, and resident education
- Work in collaboration with the Pediatric team
- Must successfully complete system training requirements including EHR/ EPIC
- Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience; Master's preferred.

Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program from a recognized college or university.

Current New York Physician Assistant license.

BLS and ACLS certification required.
