The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Nevis Laboratories of Columbia University, located in Irvington, NY, is searching for a full-time Electronics Technician to support our scientific staff of physicists and engineers developing electronics instrumentation for high-energy physics experiments. The Electronics Technician will be responsible for assembling, repairing, and modifying electronic equipment, parts, components, and systems, and must have excellent soldering and technical skills. The position will involve interacting with vendors for the procurement of electronic components and the fabrication and assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs). This position will be working on multiple projects simultaneously and requires excellent organizational and time management skills.


Responsibilities

  • The Electronics Technician will assemble, modify, and repair PCBs
  • Use technical skill set to complete soldering, cable, and test fixture assembly
  • Build part lists and PCB assembly drawings. Interact with vendors to procure components and order fabrication and assembly of custom PCBs
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a scientific discipline. Minimum two years of experience in a research environment.

  • Mechanical skills for electronics shop requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills
