The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Finance, the Director of Financial Reporting and Business Services focuses on preparing and analyzing financial reports to represent current and projected financial status. The Director has responsibility for data mining, analysis of complex research data, and maintenance of databases.

The Director develops internal control protocols, procedures, and administrative procedures for academic and administrative departments; assists in the preparation of the annual budget submission. On an ongoing basis, the Director monitors department performance to budget and works with Department Administrators and Business Managers to bring performance into budget compliance. This will entail providing revised budgets for CCS and University systems as well as working with departments to explain any significant variances. The Director will be responsible for providing guidance and creating and delivering training to all departmental finance and administrative staff with regards to monitoring and reporting.

The Director will also be responsible for the approval of school-funded expenditures initiated at the department level as well as approval of all budget tool transactions. This role will also serve as back-up ad hoc approver if the Assistant Dean of Finance is not available. 


Responsibilities

  • Perform data-driven analyses of various aspects of Climate School operations, management, opportunities and risks.
  • Analyzes various reports throughout the year to verify that expenses are allocated properly and that necessary funding is available.
  • Explores income and expense trends across the Climate School for possible savings and to recommend possible consolidation of efforts, economies of scale, and other efficiencies.
  • Prepares worksheets and summaries to explain account activity and drafts recommendations to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Senior Associate Dean Finance and Administration.
  • Review and approve high dollar disbursements of funds from accounts, as well as contracts with outside vendors initiated by the Climate School centers and programs.
  • Responsible for presentation of results in formats needed for Climate School leadership decision making and discussion with Central University leadership. Additionally, create presentations suitable for communicating broadly with the Climate School community.
  • Conducts extensive reviews of the Climate School policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current university, and IRS requirements.
  • Provide monthly budget reports to all Climate school central offices as well as ad hoc reports on request.
  • Supports all student financial services including disbursements and tuition payments, reconciliation and financial aid.
  • Provide oversight over accounts payable.
  • Provide staff supervision in performance of the above responsibilities. Set assignments, outline project and program goals, integrate the work with other analyses, presentations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 7 year’s experience in related work which includes supervision and knowledge of government contract/grant regulations. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a university or academic science research setting.
  • Management/supervisory experience.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent spreadsheet and database skills required. 
  • Familiarity with University's organization, methods of accounting, policies, and procedures preferred.
