The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Histology Technologist) will work in the Renal Histopathology Laboratory performing a wide range of histology techniques including but not limited to:

Various types of tissue processing, embedding and tissue sectioning. Tissue processing & embedding including paraffin, frozen, and resin embedded (EM). Various tissue staining methods including H&E, specials stains, IHC, and IF, and other staining methods.

The incumbent will analyze, resolve, and troubleshoot day-to-day laboratory tasks as needed, as well as facilitate troubleshooting and resolution of routine technical issues.

Abilities will include an accurate recording of lab observations both written and oral. Attention to defined lab procedures and safe manipulation of lab equipment will be required. These duties require a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical. 


Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist will perform complex laboratory procedures in order to analyze clinical samples; this will require extensive, accurate, and efficient hands-on work, operating, maintaining and troubleshooting complex instrumentation, attention to detail, strict adherence to protocols, and maintaining extensive and accurate documentation.

  • 45% - Tissue processing, embedding and tissue sectioning. Tissue processing & embedding including paraffin, frozen, and resin embedded (EM).
  • 40% - Various tissue staining methods including H&E, specials stains, IHC, and IF, and other staining methods.
  • 5% - Demonstrate independent technical judgement.  Analyze, resolve, and troubleshoot various day-to-day histology tasks as needed.  Assist in setting up, evaluating, and troubleshooting new techniques.  Effective troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment, which includes all types of equipment: tissue processors, strainers, cover slippers, and other related equipment.
  • 5% - Successfully carrying out and maintaining QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintain statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have one of the following certification/licensure and experience:  Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technicians, Certified Histological Technicians
  • A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related health science field; or equivalent in work experience and education.

  • HT/HTL (ASCP) registered or registration eligible.

  • Demonstrate excellent microtomy both on paraffin and frozen section.

Other Requirements

  • Capable of micro-sectioning at 4 to 5
  • Must be able to successfully complete required systems trainings.
