The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Department of NBD Research is seeking a Research Nutritionist to join our team in a full-time position. Columbia University Medical Center’s Department of NBD Research is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and patient care. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have active clinical trials available to our volunteer participants.

The Research Nutritionist will report to the Principal Investigators and serve as a liaison between the participants, and other collaborators during the weight loss phase of the POWERS study.


Responsibilities

Research - 95%; Additional related duties as assigned - 5%

  • Report to the Principal Investigators and serve as the main point of contact for a national study that is investigating predictors of weight loss maintenance in adults, which includes coordination with other members of study staff on a weekly basis and monitoring of data timepoints related to the intervention.
  • Provide nutritional education and intervention per the POWERS study protocol. 
    • Collect questionnaires and perform an extensive assessment employing motivational interviewing techniques to determine participants’ individual nutrition and physical activity knowledge, beliefs attitudes, skills and preferences. Using results from the questionnaires, motivational interview and results from the dietary recalls, the nutritionist will determine energy intake needed to achieve 7% weight loss. The nutritionist uses the energy intake prescriptions to set goals and counsel participants.
    • Coordinate, collect and input nutrition and related study data in the study approved app.
    • Serve as point of contact for participants during the weight loss phase in the POWERS study
  • Assisting in participant accrual and retention, orientation and conduction of participant interviews.
  • Ensuring high quality data entry and assisting the PI with all necessary documentation.
  • Attending virtual and in-person Steering committee meetings.
  • Managing correspondence, generating study materials, and executing administrative tasks with other members of study staff.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required; plus three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Dietician (RD) or RD eligible in the United States or abroad.
  • Higher education in nutrition or related field.
  • Related experience with weight loss nutrition.
  • Proficient in Spanish.

Other Requirements

  • Experience in counseling in diet and lifestyle changes.
  • Must be flexible, highly organized, and able to manage multiple study participants in individual and group settings.
  • Excellent organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate, interpret, share and present information to management and research investigators and staff.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with data collection.
  • Ability to perform light level of physical activity.
