Position Summary
The Organization Development Specialist leads optimization and improvement initiatives designed to support VP&S and other CUIMC schools and departments in reaching their strategic goals. Under the supervision of the Director of OD – Optimization, the Specialist will provide support to the OD team in executing projects and may also be assigned independently-managed projects.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in Organization Development principles, as well as continuous improvement methodologies and strategies with specific expertise in an academic health care setting.
Responsibilities
Optimization:
- Manages optimization projects by establishing priorities and goals; developing action plans; obtaining and allocating resources; monitoring progress toward project milestones; organizing, facilitating, engaging sponsors, clients and stakeholders; directing cross-functional meetings to share information, evaluate progress, and implement changes; developing, implementing, and analyzing metrics to measure project success; summarizing and evaluating project results; and communicating project status with key stakeholders and cross-functional partners and presenting information within and across the organization to gain strategic alignment.
- Applies process improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma to analyze problems and propose solutions.
- Documents current processes to establish a baseline for developmental improvements of future workflows. Validates data provided by staff and support teams. Analyzes, recommends, and assists with implementing new and improved processes and workflows. Uses qualitative and quantitative data to design interventions and is able to leverage existing dashboards and reports.
- Applies subject matter expertise in practice operations trends to evaluate workflows, identify gaps and propose solutions to clients.
- Conducts impact analyses, creating mitigation strategies and identifying key stakeholders, in alignment with the organization’s operational strategy.
- Leverages technology solutions to solve key inefficiencies and create opportunities to streamline and improve existing processes.
- Delivers training content to end-users related to the recommended workflow and process changes. Provides ongoing client support and coordinates with the training team to ensure end-user proficiency needs are met.
- Travels to practice locations throughout the tri-state metropolitan area to interact with clients by providing onsite training and support, conduct observations, and perform additional tasks as needed.

Strategy:
- Builds and maintains relationships with stakeholders at all levels to assess, adopt, improve and support implementation of optimization strategies to help the organization achieve its performance strategy.
- Collaborates closely with other P&OD teams to coordinate comprehensive and holistic approaches to implement changes and optimizations.
- Applies Change Management methodologies; Perform impact analyses, create mitigation strategies and communication plans; Build and fosters stakeholder networks to facilitate change adoption.
- Contributes to and develops business cases that clearly demonstrate project ROI and alignment with organization and department goals.
- Provides support on reporting ROI and progress of each business cases in the optimization portfolio.
- Contributes to and supports the development of an organizational culture of accountability, inclusivity and proactivity.
People:
- Collaborates, and builds strong relationships with People & Organization Development team members, and with peers in VP&S and other schools and departments across CUIMC.
Other:
- Keeps current on all organizational, regulatory compliance and patient privacy trainings policies (e.g. infection control, public safety, EH&S, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.) and ensures that all staff has successfully completed all required trainings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
- A minimum of 3 years in clinical experience or healthcare setting required.
- Strong understanding of operational and/or clinical workflows in an outpatient setting
- Strong conceptual understanding of methodologies and models to execute on process redesign and continuous improvement/optimization.
- Experience on delivering transformational and optimization projects and understanding of change management methodology, discipline and/or strategies.
- Strong proficiency and/or understanding of qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Strong proficiency and/or understanding of project management including executing technical and operational project activities with cross-functional teams.
- Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with multiple disciplines within the practice setting – physicians, nurses, staff and management, etc.

Preferred Requirements
- Master’s Degree Management/business administration, public health or health-related field degree.
