The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Supervise histology technical laboratory personnel and workflow including but not limited to daily operation of the histology shift (tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining), laboratory maintenance, and QC/QI.

Assists Histology manager with histology staff continuing education development.

Partner and assist Histology lab manager with periodic reports to superiors, including but not limited to productivity, quality, and suggestions for improvement.


Responsibilities

  • 45% - Supervised histology workflow assuring compliance with required regulations, supervising technical and clerical staff. Ensures operational readiness of the assigned histology shifts, units and services. Ensures resources are effectively utilized, and issues are handled appropriately. Develops guidelines for prioritizing histology workflow activities, evaluating effectiveness, and modifying activities as necessary to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
  • 30% - Identifies, analyzes, and resolves routine work problems, Facilitates troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
  • 10% - Assist with managing inventory and purchasing. Assist Histology manager with purchases/invoices reconciliation in ARC. Provides regular performance evaluation of the responsible staff, monitors staff attendance, and takes necessary discipline measure when appropriate.
  • 5% - Provides periodic reports to histology manager including compilations of productivity and quality, trend analyses, and suggestions for improvement.
  • 5% - Supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less-experienced technical staff. Promotes CU Culture of Excellence and quality service through teamwork, respectful communication, maintenance of a professional environment, partnership with outreach facilities. Reviews available technical literature to maintain an awareness of current laboratory practices and procedures.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience. Four years of related experience. 
  • NYS DE Histology or Medical technology license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a supervisor in a CLIA laboratory is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in high volume lab with ability to train others. 
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft and Excel is required.
  • Must work well under pressure.

Other Requirements

  • Indirectly supervised activities of technical and floater staff
  • Monitor proper assets usage including technical supply and reagents. Assist Histology manager with purchases/ invoices reconciliation in ARC.
