The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health and the Columbia Scientific Union for the Reduction of Gun Violence (SURGE) are seeking a full-time Project Coordinator to organize and support an extensive portfolio of research, training, and translational efforts related to gun violence prevention at Columbia and beyond.  The Project Coordinator will work closely with and report directly to a core team of Columbia SURGE faculty.  Duties will include supporting ongoing research study coordination efforts, general project management, contributing to new grant proposals to private and federal funders and other SURGE fundraising/development support, supporting conference planning and event coordination efforts, running the SURGE seminar series and other student-facing training opportunities, regularly updating the SURGE website, and putting together reports regarding new SURGE research findings and other key materials for dissemination to SURGE’s academic and community-based partners. The project coordinator will also facilitate communication among SURGE faculty and students, organize meetings, and will provide other administrative support as needed.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all project activities, including ongoing and emerging gun violence research – 40%
  • Idea development support, (grant proposals, fundraising, and other opportunities) – 30%
  • Conference planning, event coordination, SURGE seminar series, training activities – 20%
  • Other administrative tasks (e.g., SURGE website, team communications and meetings) – 10%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree  
  • Outstanding communication skills and commitment to gun violence prevention
  • Outstanding organizational and large project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires an MPH or other Master’s-level degree in public health or a related field
  • Ideal candidates will have a strong attention to detail and share a genuine passion for addressing the issue of gun violence prevention
  • Prior experience with project coordination preferred, but can be further developed
  • Prior experience with proposal writing preferred, but can be further developed
  • Previous experience with website design and management also preferred, but can be developed
