The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Director of Predoctoral Student Services leads the execution of strategy, programs, and policies within the College of Dental Medicine. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to our diverse student body while maintaining alignment with the College's standards of excellence, customer service, and equity. The Director will oversee various aspects of student affairs, onboarding process, diversity initiatives, event management, and financial management.


Responsibilities

The Director of Predoctoral Student Services will be responsible for, but not limited to:

Leadership:

  • Ensure consistent alignment of programs and policies with the College's quality, customer service, and equity standards.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean to review and update student policies and procedure manual.
  • Supervise and mentor Program Coordinator.

Student Lifecycle Management:

  • Oversee and manage the onboarding process for incoming matriculated DDS students, ensuring a structured and welcoming experience that facilitates a seamless transition into the institution and sets the stage for a successful academic journey.
  • Provide exceptional support to a diverse cohort of over 350 students throughout the DDS program, ensuring a high standard of service delivery and fostering their academic success.

Student Affairs and Services:

  • Lead various student affairs procedures, including registration, leave of absences withdrawal processing, endowment management, and records maintenance.
  • Oversee the application process for the academic liaison appointments.
  • Structure and implement the new-student orientation program by collaborating with university partners.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, and admissions to develop systems and processes to ensure an integrated approach to student services.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success by actively promoting and monitoring adherence to university policies and mandatory trainings, contributing to a campus culture of responsibility and engagement, such as HIPPA, Student Life Pre-Arrival Tutorials, Community Citizenship Initiative.
  • Develop and implement engaging and inclusive student program and activities that enhance the overall student experience.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for faculty, administrators, and students regarding the DDS program and policies, offering clear guidance when questions arise and actively suggesting policy enhancements when necessary.

Diversity and Inclusion:

  • Collaborate with external consultants to annually rework curriculum development to enhance diversity initiatives.
  • Facilitate diversity training sessions in partnership with the Office of Access, Equity, and Inclusion.

Financial Management:

  • Manage an annual operating budget of $217K, optimizing resources and staying updated on financial practices to ensure policy compliance.
  • Lead budget-related transactions, including vouchers, P- card reconciliation, reimbursements, purchase orders, and event contracts.

Event Management:

  • Plan, manage, and execute school-wide events such as White Coat, Clinician Ceremony, Class Day Awards Ceremony, Commencement, and Graduation. Key responsibilities include ceremony logistics, speaker selection, and communication plan to internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and oversee on-site logistics on event days.

Student Data and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and secure student data.
  • Handle data requests efficiently, respond to inquiries, and provide requested information to support decision-making and reporting needs.

University Liaison:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to university resources, including admissions, registrar, financial aid, university life, public safety, and the international students and scholars’ office.
  • Participate in the Dean’s meetings with University Life
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

Other Requirements

  • Experience in student affairs, higher education administration, or related fields; preferably in a university academic dental center setting
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial management and budget oversight.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
