The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

For over 120 years, the Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) has been a leader in social work research, pedagogy, and practice. To this day, CSSW students, alumni, and faculty remain at the crossroads of science and social justice.  With over 20,000 alumni in the United States and worldwide, CSSW graduates work as leaders in diverse nonprofit, government, and corporate fields or provide individual and family therapy/counseling. Employers actively recruit CSSW graduates because of their solid academic preparation, analytical and professional practice strengths, and their leadership.

The Director of Admissions is responsible for designing and implementing marketing and admissions strategies for all MS programs, processes, activities and directs and leads overarching office supervision of admissions and recruitment activities and staff. 


Responsibilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with and have knowledge of diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies, which may include: national educational marketing, strategy creation and implementation, public speaking and presentation skills, organizational and process management, staff supervision and development.
  • An ability to work with changing priorities and multiple projects.
  • Skilled at building and maintaining relationships and working with multiple constituencies within the School and University community.
  • The ability to exercise discretion and judgment in sensitive and confidential matters is required.
  • Manage and guide all aspects of strategic enrollment and recruitment initiatives, encompassing areas such as communication and outreach programs, activities on social media platforms, development and implementation of recruitment policies and procedures, and overseeing the application process, including policy formulation and evaluation.
  • Create and lead comprehensive marketing plans for all Master of Science programs, focusing on innovative, cost-effective methods to attract diverse, qualified student groups and boost enrollments. Responsible for the effective management of admissions for these programs, aiming to achieve targets set by the school's leadership, including the Dean and Senior Associate Dean.
  • Set up and maintain rigorous procedures and standards to ensure the integrity and smooth operation of the admissions process from initial application to final enrollment.
  • Recruit, oversee, and collaborate with staff in admissions activities. Responsibilities include interviewing candidates, making recommendations for admissions, and preparing necessary reports. Manage and oversee all data regarding admitted and enrolled students, ensuring consistent data collection and reporting practices.
  • In collaboration with CSSW leadership, organize and lead program information sessions both on campus and in key external locations, engaging faculty, alumni, and students when suitable.
  • Develop and implement strategies for admissions and marketing research, manage project timelines, supervise report production, and design questionnaires to guarantee accurate survey sampling and execution.
  • Oversee the analysis and reporting of research data, including the creation of monthly and annual forecasts for admissions leads, enrollments, and market shares. Develop and implement strategies to convert and retain applicants to meet enrollment objectives.
  • Oversee the budget and financial aspects of admissions, recruitment, and marketing operations while maintaining effective cost controls.
  • Represent the School and Senior leadership internally within the university and externally with various groups and organizations, serving as the principal liaison for CSSW MS admissions when needed.
  • Special projects as assigned or required. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of 5-7 years of related experience that includes administrative and supervisory responsibilities in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the role of information technology in Admissions.
  • Marketing experience in enrollment management.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with and have knowledge of diverse constituencies.

  • Must be willing to travel and work some evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related advanced degree is preferred (MS in Social Work, MPA, MBA, etc.).
