The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Clubs and Activities /VP&S Club will be responsible for supporting over 70 medical student clubs, together known as the “VP&S Club.” These clubs and organizations include affinity and identity groups, career interest groups, art and music-related clubs, athletic clubs, and more. The Director is a key student-facing leader on campus and is essential to fostering community and engagement within the medical school and broader medical center. The Director also supervises the Program Assistant, Student Activities/VP&S Club.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the support of over 70 medical student clubs, including supporting events, programming, and various initiatives. Liaises closely with student club leaders and faculty advisors
  • Oversee the financial management of the VP&S club, including but not limited to fundraising, budgeting, accounting, and purchasing activities
  • Manages, catalogues and accounts for active status of clubs and manages the process for the sunsetting and development of new clubs as appropriate.
  • Partner with various campus offices, including alumni affairs, faculty departments, facilities, housing, student and campus services, and public safety.
  • Manages all communications regarding the VP&S Club, including newsletters, event invitations, and the website.
  • Oversees the election of the Class Council (student leadership) and other student leadership positions; Serves as the main point of contact and partner for the VP&S Club student representatives (social chairs); Also supports the election of University-wide student leaders, including the Columbia University senate
  • Leads planning and management for selected annual campus events/traditions in partnership with students.
  • As a leader of the student affairs team, supports campus events and traditions, including but not limited to Orientation, Match Day, and Graduation
  • Contributes to and supports peer mentoring programs and student club leadership development.
  • Leads the VP&S Club Faculty Advisory Board
  • Works collaboratively with the Medical Education Deans and team on ad hoc and new student programming and engagement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, plus four years of related experience in higher education administration or related field.

  • Experience with finance and budgeting, student counseling, and event planning expected.

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups, in a fast-paced collaborative environment.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage a variety of tasks and projects simultaneously, with impeccable attention to detail.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.

  • Occasional evening and weekend work required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or relevant field preferred.
  • Candidates with prior experience in a medical or health professional graduate school environment
