The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing IVF laboratory procedures in accordance with the Procedures and Policies of Columbia University Fertility Center. Under the direction of the Director of Embryology and in collaboration with the embryology team, the Embryologist will perform a wide variety of duties to support the overall maintenance of the laboratory.


Responsibilities

  • Oocyte identification during egg retrieval and grading.
  • Culture plate preparation.
  • Insemination of oocytes (conventional and ICSI).
  • Embryo biopsy (blastomere and trophectoderm).
  • Laser Assisted hatching.
  • Embryo culture.
  • Embryo grading, preparation and loading for transfer.
  • Sperm freezing, oocyte freezing (vitrification) and embryo freezing (vitrification).
  • May assist in maintaining semen, oocyte, and embryo inventory.
  • Record keeping and data entry.
  • Maintaining lab cleanliness.
  • Maintaining laboratory inventory, ordering consumables and equipment .
  • Maintain good laboratory technique and follow lab protocols, applicable HIPAA and safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as directed.

Requirements: 

Ability to sit for long periods of time behind a microscope, in a lab setting.


Ability to work under a laminar flow hood.

Heavy lifting.

Flexible working hours, potential for long days and early morning start times.

Rotational weekend and holiday work.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Require bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
  • Ability to perform tasks efficiently in outlined time frames.
  • Three years of experience in embryology or related laboratory setting.
  • Good Hand/eye Coordination
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients and clinical staff

 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fertility laboratory performing IVF or related procedures
