The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director, Human Resources, the Assistant Director performs a wide variety of duties related to Employee Relations, Organizational Development, and HR Operations. The incumbent manages the employee on- and off-boarding life cycle, participates in and resolves employee relations issues, and supports training and development efforts.


Responsibilities

Employee Relations (40%)

  • Responsible for the performance management lifecycle logistics including but not limited to establishing timelines, draft communications, assisting in presenting applicable training, appraisal reviews, tracking, and follow-up as well as employee performance issues
  • Administer and coordinate all aspects of leaves maintaining compliance with CU policies, federal and state leave regulations all while providing guidance and excellent customer service to employees and managers; liaise with colleagues to ensure leaves are appropriately documented and reporting requirements are met
  • Support the design, development, and facilitation of training content focused on professional, management, and leadership development programs. Work with the Director to constantly update training programs and to identify new development needs.  Assess training program and execution effectiveness against targeted business results; develop and implement communication plans
  • May serve as the HR representative and ex-officio member of the SPS DEIA committee and/or the Administrative DEIA sub-committee

Organizational Development (30%)

  • In partnership with the Director, participate in the career planning and development process for SPS:  develop career paths, and individual development plans, identify developmental opportunities, and coach SPS employees on career goals and plans
  • Identify ways to evolve our current engagement practices by staying current with the latest trends and providing recommendations and insights based on industry best practices

Operations (20%)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for all SPS compliance staying up to date on all university, state, and federal policies and guidelines. Identify, implement and track all compliance activities for the school
  • Assist in recruitment efforts and new hire processes which include the development of job descriptions, creation of diversity recruitment strategies, and candidate interviews
  • Maintain departmental guidelines, practices and procedures for onboarding and recruitment while ensuring that they are fully aligned with the policies and practices of the university
  • Support HR Operations in managing the new hire lifecycle for various SPS programs.  The incumbent serves as a partner to hiring managers providing strategic HR guidance on processes and policies, creating and project-managing hiring timelines, and ensuring that all hires are processed timely and accurately
  • May be responsible for supervising the work of one (1) or more employees

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required
  • 3 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant HR experience in a higher education setting or other large, complex organization preferred
  • Experience with Columbia University systems including PeopleSoft and TalentLink (PageUp)

Other Requirements

  • Working knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and local laws/regulations.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints, handle sensitive data and multi-task so deadlines can be met
  • Experience managing employee relations issues
  • Experience presenting and training
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and Visio
