Position Summary

The University of Denver Sturm College of Law seeks applications from full-time members of its faculty to serve as Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Working closely with the Dean, fellow Associate Deans, faculty colleagues, staff members, campus partners, and external stakeholders, the successful candidate will advance the academic mission of the Sturm College of Law by administering, assessing, and continuously enhancing the law school’s academic enterprise, with a particular focus on the law school’s JD-related degrees, courses, programs, certificates, and academic initiatives. Additional responsibilities of the position – including, without limitation, hiring of adjunct faculty, allocation of teaching responsibilities, collaboration with the Registrar’s Office on course scheduling, and preparation of submissions to outside bodies – will extend across the law school’s entire academic enterprise, including non-JD degrees and programs.

The successful candidate would be expected to begin in the position on or around June 1, 2024. This is a twelve-month administrative appointment, with an initial term of two years and the possibility of renewal for a third year upon mutual agreement.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will undertake the following principal responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Dean, fellow Associate Deans, faculty colleagues, staff members, and campus partners to develop, manage, assess, and continuously enhance the law school’s full-time JD program, Professional Part-Time JD Program, Sorrento Summer Program, JD-related joint- and dual-degree programs, JD-related certificates, Bar Success Program, and Academic Achievement Program, as well as future JD-related courses, programs, certificates, and initiatives.
  • Lead the sound and equitable administration of academic policies and procedures in compliance with applicable unit, University of Denver, and American Bar Association policies.
  • Allocate teaching responsibilities for full-time faculty members in accordance with applicable law school workload policies.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office to organize the course schedule for fall, spring, and summer terms.
  • Hire and support adjunct and visiting faculty.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs on a variety of student-related matters, including Orientation, student organizational matters, and academic standing requirements.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the law school’s Office of Registration and Records.
  • Supervise the law school’s Instructional Design and Faculty Support departments.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Director of Academic Initiatives and Advising focused on JD-related matters to develop strategies for individualized and subject-specific academic advising for JD students, through individualized meetings, relevant guidance documents, and instructional programming.
  • Play a leadership role in preparing periodic submissions to the American Bar Association and U.S. News & World Report.
  • Manage and administer the Sturm College of Law Honor Code.
  • Serve ex officio on the Appointments Committee.
  • Represent the Sturm College of Law on University committees, including the Graduate Council.
  • Undertake other duties, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time faculty member at the Sturm College of Law
  • J.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees (or their equivalents)
  • A strong compliance orientation
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary rate for this position is $45,000

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
