About the Graduate School of Professional Psychology

At the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP), our goal is to transform the way we think about and approach mental health and wellness. We do so through groundbreaking academic programs and experiential training that aims to ensure we can better meet the needs of the communities we serve. We are dedicated to developing exceptional practitioners and scholars by offering a well-rounded approach to education. Every single one of our programs blends valuable academic offerings, intensive field-based training, cutting-edge applied research, and constructive community engagement. Our academic programs are rooted in our history of service and have developed over time to meet the growing needs of society. For more information, please visit http://psychology.du.edu.

GSPP was created in 1976 to house one of the first Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs in the country, under the Vail (practitioner-scholar) training model. GSPP currently also offers four specialized master’s programs: Forensic Psychology, International Disaster Psychology: Trauma and Global Mental Health, Sport and Performance Psychology, and Sport Coaching, Furthermore, GSPP offers online certificate programs and continuing education opportunities. We now offer major and minor degrees in Kinesiology and Sport Studies. The School also has a partially affiliated, APA-accredited internship consortium and several in-house psychology training clinics that serve Denver and the surrounding communities. As a professional school, GSPP promotes and utilizes high-level pedagogy that integrates applied practice, theory, research, and scholarship.

GSPP seeks to train students to provide culturally competent services to clients and the community. Although more progress is needed, GSPP endeavors to create an accessible, affirming, and safe climate by actively engaging in the process of systemic transformation and accountability. We believe that embracing diversity in all its dimensions enriches our practice, research, and teaching, allowing us to better serve our community and contribute to a more equitable and inclusive field. Our commitment to DEI underscores our dedication to fostering a compassionate and effective environment for faculty, staff, students and the clients they serve.

Position Summary

We seek a colleague who will effectively ensure that GSPP’s policies and procedures reflect an integration of principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Achieving this outcome will require close collaboration with and leadership of faculty and staff at GSPP and across the university. Priority projects will include curriculum/syllabi reviews and integrating DEI in Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure, including faculty hiring and retention. The Director will help ensure that DEI is integrated into the School’s strategic plans and visions and will assist with the strategic plans’ implementation. Example future projects may include integrating DEI in processes such as professional development, student recruitment/admissions and retention, financial aid, student grievances, staff hiring, climate, data and assessment, and practicum training. A core component of this role is supporting faculty and staff leadership development around DEI. Success will require developing and maintaining relationships with DU partners such as the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Office of Graduate Education, the Office of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence, and peers in similar roles across campus.

A successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of equity-focused research, teaching, service, and/or academic administration. The faculty position will teach in one or more of our academic programs, with a home program to be identified based on the candidate’s academic specialty. This is a full-time, benefited position that reports to the Dean, with a dotted line to the academic program director for teaching responsibilities. GSPP faculty contracts are for 10-months, but the administrative appointment is held year-round and includes a small summer stipend.

The appointment will commence by September 1, 2025, but a start date during the Winter term of 2025 is desired and/or possible if it works for the candidate.
