DU’s Living and Learning Communities (LLCs) prepare undergraduate students to contribute to the public good by connecting their learning across living, academic, and co-curricular experiences with a cohort of peers. When students join an LLC, they become part of a community that includes approximately 22 peers, a Faculty Mentor, and a Program Coordinator. Together, students live on the same hall, learn in a sequence of classes, and participate in events and activities .
LLCs are part of the Office of Public Good Strategy and Research (OPGS&R) in Academic Affairs. The mission of the OPGS&R is to realize the University’s public good vision through collaboration for public good discovery. LLCs play a central role in building foundations for student public good discovery through integrative learning experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
LLC Faculty Mentors support students’ integrative learning around specific issue areas, in collaboration with the LLC Assistant Director and a graduate student Program Coordinator. The LLC themes include: ChangeMakers, Eco-Wellness, Sustainability, Gaming De-Coded, and Global Mental Health.
Principal responsibilities include:
- Oversee planning for the three-quarter sequence of LLC classes, ensuring the course sequence design advances LLC program learning objectives as well as learning objectives specific to the LLC issue area;
- Teach the 2-credit Fall Quarter LLC course; and assist in recruiting Adjunct instructors for Winter and/or Spring Quarter LLC courses or teach Winter and/or Spring Quarter courses;
- Promote student integrative learning across curricular, co-curricular, and living experiences in collaboration with LLC graduate student Program Coordinators, Assistant Director, and other Faculty Mentors;
- Mentor and support the professional development of the graduate student Program Coordinator;
- Collaborate with relevant campus partners for student success, particularly Housing and Residence Education staff;
- Contribute to recruiting and program evaluation efforts;
- Advise students in related minor/certificate as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral or terminal degree in content area relevant to the LLC theme
- Current DU employee (faculty or staff) with content expertise in the relevant LLC issue area
- Experience teaching undergraduates
- Experience mentoring students
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in holistic student learning experiences in and out of classroom
- Experience in managing learning programs for undergraduates
Work Schedule
While the University’s administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The salary grade for the position is UC.
Salary Range:
$10,500/year stipend. Faculty are eligible to teach a 1- to 2-credit course in Winter and/or Spring quarters for which they are compensated at the Adjunct Faculty rate for each course.
