Position Summary

The University of Denver’s NSF ADVANCE MERISTEM grant is seeking two Faculty Equity Advisors, effective October 1, 2024 

As part of the NSF ADVANCE MERISTEM grant, the role of an Equity Advisor is in support of the team of Co-Principal Investigators and the larger grant team in reviewing and identifying areas in which bias enters in to processes and decision-making, thus moving forward the work of equity in DU’s science disciplines  

The Faculty Equity Advisor role will work alongside the grant director and the Co-PI team to envision and implementation strategic activities to increase supports, resources, and capacity in identifying and mitigating bias in faculty centric academic processes within the purview of the grant  

Essential Functions

  • Provide an average of 2 hours/week/person for 40 weeks per year (10 weeks each quarter) for two years (starting academic year 2024-2025 and finishing academic year 2025-2026), to total 80 hours of work per academic year. 
  • Attend all all-members meetings (1.5 hrs bi-quarterly), and other meetings as needed (likely no more than 2 or 3 per quarter) 
  • Review program proposals, reports, newsletters, and communications as requested, keeping within the 2 hr/wk/person average 
  • Write at least one report per year summarizing activities and recommendations 

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in relevant field (e.g., social sciences, anthropology, sociology, history, etc.) 
  • Professional experience/expertise regarding DEI efforts and concerns in higher education 
  • An understanding of social systems and role of power in within the processes and practices of faculty life.  
  • At least 10 years experience working in higher education with faculty 
  • Current DU faculty member

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with models of Indigenous Peoples social systems (e.g., restorative justice) 
  • Lived experience relevant to the position 
  • Knowledge of DU’s academic systems, structures, and cultures that encapsulate responsibilities and expectations within the faculty role.

Compensation

The pay for the position is a stipend of $200/hr ($16,000 per 12 months).

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
