The Data Science graduate programs are a component of the Computer Science Department at the University of Denver. We host a 48-credit curriculum leading to a Master of Data Science, which students can complete through either our online or on-campus program tracks. Position Summary
The Associate Program Director performs multiple administrative and leadership functions in the Data Science Graduate Programs. This position reports to the Faculty Director for Data Science Graduate Programs and is well-suited for an energetic, integrative, professional who transitions easily between independent and collaborative activities. The ideal candidate can help set and meet strategic priorities that support the program’s development as well as serve as the primary contact for information and coordination across a wide range of stakeholders. This includes graduate students, faculty, administrative staff, and external education partners.
Essential Functions
Student Engagement & Career Development (40%)
- Develops and disseminates a regular flow of information to update & engage students on important academic dates & deadlines, program information, career and internship opportunities, and related activities.
- Develops and leads programs and initiatives to support student’s career development in collaboration with other campus offices, data science alumni, and employers. This may include on-campus, virtual, and off-campus activities.
- Provides strategic oversight for the growth of student internship opportunities and collaborates with Faculty Director to administer internship courses and related data collection.
- Provides responsive support particular to the needs of international students as related to CPT and OPT approval requests.
- Working with the Faculty Director, cultivates industry contacts and partnerships within the Denver metro area to promote the data science graduate program and to develop networks for program advising.
Program Marketing (25%)
- Collaborates within marketing teams to strategize and implement consistent data science messaging across digital touchpoints. These include, but are not limited to, web, social media, digital advertising, and email marketing.
- Advances promotional strategies that are unique to the data science program. These may include written and recorded materials, presentations, as well as events.
- Coordinates and participates in quarterly virtual informational sessions in support of student recruitment.
Administrative Liaison & Leadership (15%)
- Represents the program in front-facing meetings with other campus offices at the Faculty Directors discretion.
- Serves as an advisor to ISSS in support of their work to serve DS/Ritchie’s international graduate students.
- Provides interim, director-level, decision-making and course related approvals during extended periods of director absence as required to maintain day-to-day operational continuity.
- Collaborates with the Student Success Manager to process graduation audits and candidacy forms for data science graduate students.
- Assists Faculty Director in the delivery and upkeep of Canvas courses throughout the academic year.
- Coordinates oversight for program records and curation of materials with support from the Faculty Director and program staff.
Program Analytics and Records (15%)
- Initiates data collection, synthesis, and reporting to help identify new opportunities for student recruitment & retention, marketing, program development, and related activities that enhance the program’s visibility and competitiveness.
- Maintains and extracts program and student data to support decision-making on behalf of Faculty Director and other educational partners.
Strategic Development & Project Management (5%)
- Working with the Faculty Director for Data Science plans, implements, and assesses multi-faceted projects and/or initiatives that extend the program’s educational reach and impact.
- Oversees curation of program guidelines, workflows, and student centric resources related to their academic experience in the Program.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by Faculty Director.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Prior record of accomplishment in a comparable administrative position.
- Ability to work on-campus during normal work hours.
- High level of competency in the use of Microsoft Office and other common professional software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or graduate coursework in data science or associated discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in student affairs, marketing/analysis, or program management
- Proficiency with CRM systems (i.e., Slate), ERP software, and/or other relational databases including experience as a front-end user.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Work Schedule
The University’s administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Work schedule may vary.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 11.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $71,874.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
